Race Overview

EST. 1959

Eindhoven is the kind of race people who have done it recommend to anyone chasing a PR. The course is flat and point-to-point, running through the streets of a mid-sized Dutch city that genuinely gets behind the event. You're not going to be distracted by much scenery. That's the point. The course keeps you honest and the conditions in October are usually cool enough to give you a real shot at your number.

The field is competitive in a useful way. You'll find a lot of people around you who showed up with a goal time, which makes it easier to settle into the right rhythm early. Don't go out too hot just because the first few kilometers feel generous. Registration opens in early March and goes fast, so if you're targeting this one, set a reminder and be ready to book. Charity entry through KWF is an option if you miss the open window. It's a straightforward race to travel to as well. Eindhoven Central is close to both start and finish, and getting in from other European cities by train is easy. Bring a throwaway layer for the corral and trust the flat course to do its job.

With 262 feet of total gain across the full distance, this is about as flat as road marathon racing gets. The course is point to point, so you won't be running loops, and the net elevation matches the gain, suggesting no meaningful downhill benefit to bank on. Expect wide, even roads through a Dutch city grid where the gradient rarely registers. Pacing is honest here: what you go out at is roughly what the course will hold you to. Wind is the main variable on exposed sections. In the absence of climbs, the risk is simply going too hard too early on terrain that feels effortless through the first half.

What to expect

October in Eindhoven is cool and usually dry, which is about as good as it gets for racing. The start will feel brisk, probably low-to-mid 40s, so wear a layer you're willing to toss. By the time you're deep into the back half it warms a little but stays comfortable. Wind is the thing to watch on this course. The roads are open and flat, so a headwind on an exposed stretch can cost you more than you'd expect. Check the forecast the morning of and adjust your pace expectations if it's gusting.
