Race Overview

EST. 1980

Dublin starts in the city centre, sends you out through some of the wider southern suburbs, loops through Phoenix Park around the midpoint, and brings you back in to finish on Merrion Street. The crowds are there from the start, and they stay with you. The Park stretch is the one moment the race opens up and goes quiet in a good way. Use it to reset your breathing and settle your pace before the return leg.

The course is rolling rather than flat, with around 683 feet of total climbing spread over the whole route. There is no net downhill to bail you out, so go out controlled. Late October in Dublin runs cool, usually mid-50s Fahrenheit, which suits most runners well. Entry is through a ballot for general places, and it fills fast, so if you miss the draw, charity spots are available year-round through partner organisations. Good for Age qualifiers and elites also have a direct route in. It is a solid race to build toward, and the city genuinely gets behind it.

Start and finish in one place

Dublin is a loop course with around 683 feet of cumulative gain, meaning the elevation you climb you do not get back on a net-downhill finish. The course is broadly rolling rather than hilly, but the undulations are spread across the full distance, so even-effort pacing beats chasing early miles. The stretch through Phoenix Park in the middle miles offers a brief respite from the urban turns, but expect to work for pace in the second half. Conditions in late October typically sit in the low-to-mid 50s Fahrenheit, genuinely good racing weather. Surface is mostly road tarmac with moderate cambering. Not a guaranteed PR course, but not a course designed to punish either.

What to expect

Late October in Dublin means a cool, damp morning and you'll probably stay that way all day. The start feels brisk, around the low-to-mid 40s, so a throwaway layer is worth it. Temperatures barely climb through the afternoon, which is actually good news for pacing. The bigger factor is wind and rain, which Dublin serves up regularly in autumn. If it's a dry day, you're in luck. If not, plan for it and don't let the conditions shake your pace early.

What to expect

Most travelling runners fly into DUB, about 5 miles from the start, right on the doorstep by rideshare or transit, roughly a 10-minute trip. Stay close to the start in Dublin so you're not fighting race-morning closures and transit on tired legs. Arrive a day early to clear the expo and bib pickup, and build in buffer for gear-check and corral entry.
