Maine Marathon
The Maine Marathon runs a flat out-and-back course through Portland in crisp October air, with fall foliage and cool temperatures that make it one of the better setups for a strong time in New England.

Race-Day Weather
Early October in Portland, Maine is usually cool and crisp. You're looking at a low-40s start, which means a throwaway layer in the corral is a smart call. By the later miles it warms into the low 60s, so you'll shed that layer and be comfortable for most of the race. It's the kind of window that suits a hard effort, but keep an eye on wind off the water, which can show up on the out-and-back stretches and cost you more than you'd expect.
Entry
General registration opens in late February. Runners with qualifying times (men: 2:45, women/non-binary: 3:15) earn a comp entry. Charity bibs available for fundraisers.

Most travelling runners fly into BOS, about 97 miles from the start, a longer haul by rideshare or transit, roughly a 153-minute trip. Stay close to the start in Portland, ME so you're not fighting race-morning closures and transit on tired legs. Arrive a day early to clear the expo and bib pickup, and build in buffer for gear-check and corral entry.
