Race Overview

EST. 2000

Green Bay runs a flat loop that gives you very little to complain about course-wise. The elevation barely moves, the surface is consistent, and you spend much of the race in and around the city with spectators spread along the route. It is a mid-sized field, so you never feel lost in a crowd, but there are enough runners around to keep you honest on pace. The course passes near Lambeau Field, which is the one moment worth a glance even mid-race. Just don't slow down for the photo op.

This is a course that suits you if a PR or a Boston qualifier is the goal. The flat profile does the work, but that also means your pacing discipline has to do the work too. There is no hill to force a natural reset. Start conservatively, because a course this even can lull you into banking time you will pay back after mile 18. Entry was open registration, so getting in was never the hard part. Worth noting: the race ran its final edition in 2024, so check whether a successor event has been announced before you plan a trip.

Start and finish in one place

The loop course sits in a narrow elevation band, with a net difference of zero and a modest overall range of roughly 170 feet. That means no sustained climbs to drain your legs and no long descents to blow out your quads early. The flat character rewards even pacing from the gun. Because the course loops back near the start-finish, you avoid the unpredictable late-race exposure that point-to-point courses can carry. USATF certification confirms accurate distance. The main pacing risk on a course this flat is going out too fast in the first half, which the lack of terrain feedback can encourage.

What to expect

Mid-May in Green Bay can swing. The morning gun usually fires in the low-to-mid 40s, which is comfortable for racing but cold enough to want a throwaway layer in the corral. By the time you hit the back half, temperatures can climb into the mid-60s if the sun comes out. That gap is worth planning for. Dress for the finish, not the start, and hydrate steadily from early on rather than waiting until you feel warm.
