Athens Authentic Marathon
The Athens Authentic Marathon follows the exact route of the 490 BC messenger from Marathon to Athens. It is a hard, hilly point-to-point course with a finish inside the marble Panathenaic Stadium.

The Course
Race-Day Weather
November in Athens is generally kind to runners. You're looking at a cool-to-mild morning at the gun, warming into the mid-60s by the time you're grinding up the long climb in the back half. That's the catch: the temperature rise hits right when the course gets hardest. It's rarely brutal, but the sun can feel sharp on exposed stretches if you're already working hard. Dress for a cool start and don't overdress. Hydrate steadily from the beginning.
Entry
First come, first served registration. Marathon capacity: 25,000 runners. Registration closes September 25, 2026 or when participation limits are met. Minimum age: 20 years. Runners must be at the start at least one hour before the 8:30 AM start time.

Most travelling runners fly into ATH, about 12 miles from the start, right on the doorstep by rideshare or transit, roughly a 19-minute trip. Stay close to the start in Athens so you're not fighting race-morning closures and transit on tired legs. Arrive a day early to clear the expo and bib pickup, and build in buffer for gear-check and corral entry.
