Race Overview

EST. 2012

The Woodlands is the kind of race that gets out of your way and lets you run. It starts and finishes in Town Center, right in the heart of the suburb, and the course loops through shaded residential paths and quiet roads north of Houston. The terrain is genuinely flat. If you have a time goal, this course will not fight you on elevation.

It is an open-registration race, so getting in is straightforward. Sign up, show up. The field is mid-sized, which means enough crowd support to keep you moving but none of the corral chaos of a big city event. Late February in The Woodlands can be mild and cool, which is about the best you can hope for in Texas. But it can also turn humid or warm, so don't assume a perfect day. Check the forecast in the week before and have a backup plan. If you are chasing a Boston qualifier, the course is certified and the conditions often cooperate. Just don't go out too hard on the first loop thinking you have it banked.

Start and finish in one place

With just over 130 feet of total gain across the full 26.2 miles, this is about as flat as Texas promises. The multi-loop layout means you see the same terrain twice, which cuts both ways: you can preview what is coming, but mental fatigue on the second loop is real. No significant climbs to fear, but no long descents to bank time either. Pacing is almost entirely self-managed. The surface is a mix of paved paths and roads. Go out honest on loop one, because the back half of loop two is where over-eager early miles collect their debt.

What to expect

Late February here can be genuinely good running weather, a cool morning that warms into the mid-60s by midday. At its best, you get a crisp start and a comfortable finish. But this is still the Houston area, and humidity can show up even on mild days. If you feel slower than your splits suggest, that is probably why. Check the forecast closely in race week. If it looks humid, hydrate early and adjust your expectations before the gun.
