Race Overview

EST. 2001

The OKC Memorial Marathon starts and finishes at the Oklahoma City National Memorial, and the meaning of that location is felt all morning. The course runs through downtown, loops through surrounding neighborhoods, and brings you back through Bricktown near the end. It is not flat. Rolling hills show up throughout, and they add up over 26 miles. The crowd support is genuine and consistent, and the finish at the Memorial is one of those moments that lands differently than a typical finish line. Worth every bit of the last six miles.

This is a rolling course, so go in with honest expectations. It qualifies for Boston, but the terrain means you need to run smart. Don't chase the downhills early. Registration is open to everyone and typically opens in late August with a discount window right at the start, so mark your calendar if you want to save some money. It fills at a manageable pace, but do not leave it until race week. If you want a race with real weight behind it and a crowd that shows up, OKC delivers.

Start and finish in one place

The course is a loop with nearly equal gain and loss, so net elevation is close to flat. That said, the 758 feet of gain means you are working through rolling stretches rather than cruising a flat road. The highest and lowest points sit within about 145 feet of each other, so no single climb is brutal, but the rolling character accumulates. Expect to work in the middle miles and resist banking too much time early. The back half demands patience. The course is USATF certified and qualifies for Boston, but the rolling profile makes a PR day dependent on execution and conditions more than raw course speed.

What to expect

Late April in Oklahoma City means a cool-ish start that warms up fast. You might toe the line in the low 50s feeling comfortable, but by the back half of the race the temperature has usually climbed into the 70s. Wind is a real factor in Oklahoma and can come from any direction. Hydrate from mile one and do not dress for the start gun; dress for mile 20. A warm finish is the norm, not the exception.
