Race Overview

EST. 2003

Miami runs a dead-flat loop around downtown and Miami Beach, and if the weather cooperates it can be a genuinely fast day. You start at Kaseya Center on Biscayne Boulevard, cross into Miami Beach in the first few miles, and spend a long stretch running open roads along the water. The course is almost entirely flat. A few short bridge humps break things up, but nothing that should change your pace plan. The moment that sticks is the stretch along the bay in the final miles, Bayfront Park coming into view with the downtown skyline behind it. It's a good finish.

Here's the honest part: January in Miami is not cool. The morning starts mild, but by the back half you're racing in real heat. Hydrate from mile one and don't let the flat course tempt you into going out too fast. It's a Boston qualifier, but the weather keeps the BQ rate low, so treat it as a time goal race only if you're comfortable running warm. Entry opens in late summer and the race has sold out, so register early once the window opens. Life Time members get a jump on general registration. If you like warm-weather racing and a real city course, this one delivers.

The course is about as flat as road racing gets, with a highest point under 40 feet and minimal cumulative gain for a loop. The opening miles track along Biscayne Boulevard before crossing into Miami Beach, where the road straightens and opens up. Expect some bridge crossings that break the rhythm briefly but add no meaningful climbing. The back half loops through residential streets before returning along the bay to Bayfront Park. With no sustained climbs to worry about, pacing discipline and heat management are the main variables. Go out conservatively; the warmth builds through the late miles.

What to expect

January in Miami means a mild morning that turns into a genuine heat-management race by the second half. The start is comfortable enough, but temperatures climb through the late miles and the humidity is always a factor. The flat course can lull you into banking pace early. Don't. Hydrate from mile one and treat the weather as part of the race, not a surprise.
