Race-day weather.
Early December in Sacramento brings cool, often crisp mornings near 38°F, climbing to the upper 50s by finish. Rain happens but is the exception. Fog at the Folsom Dam start is the most common race-day variable.
Entry.
Three open registration tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold) sell out fast each spring, with Gold typically gone within minutes. A first-timer program and time-qualifier guaranteed entries provide a back door for runners who miss the open sale. Charity entries are also available.

Race history.
Founded in 1983 by the Sacramento Running Association as a community marathon, CIM grew steadily through the 1990s and exploded in the 2010s as Boston qualifying standards tightened and runners sought reliable cool-weather, downhill courses. It is now the USATF national marathon championship venue most years.
First run in 1983. Roughly 9,100 finishers in a recent edition.
