Race Overview

EST. 1985

Seville runs through the heart of one of Spain's most visually striking cities, and the course does not let you forget where you are. You start at Paseo de las Delicias near the river and spend the first half threading past the Cathedral, the old tobacco factory, and the wide open Plaza de España. The course is genuinely flat. There is almost no elevation to speak of, and the loop layout means you get a real sense of the city rather than a blur of residential streets. February is cool and usually dry, which makes for good racing conditions if you show up fit.

This is one of the most PR-friendly courses you will find in Europe. Serious club runners and sub-elite fields both show up knowing the conditions are right for a fast day. Don't let the first half pull you out too quick, though. The crowd energy around the Cathedral area is real, and it is easy to bank time you'll wish you had later. Registration opens in spring and fills up, so get in early if you have a target date in mind. If you want a fast, well-organized race in a city that genuinely rewards a long weekend, this one delivers.

The course is effectively flat, tracing a loop with under 250 feet of total gain and a net of zero. The highest point barely clears 55 feet, so no meaningful climb defines the race. What this means for pacing: there is no elevation excuse, and no free downhill to bank time. The loop layout keeps crowds concentrated and gives you repeated familiar landmarks. With wide, open streets and a largely sheltered urban setting, wind is rarely a major factor. Surface is paved and consistent throughout. The risk here is going out too fast on a course that makes early miles feel easy. Be disciplined through the first half.

What to expect

February in Seville is one of the better windows you'll find for a marathon. The morning start can be genuinely cold, so plan a throwaway layer for the corral. By the later miles it'll feel comfortable, not warm. You're unlikely to be racing the heat here. The bigger thing to watch is that cool, dry air can trick you into feeling faster than you are in the first half. Conditions usually favor a fast day, but run your own race.
