Grandma's Marathon
Grandma's Marathon runs 26.2 miles along the Lake Superior shoreline from Two Harbors into Duluth's Canal Park, with a net downhill course and a prevailing tailwind that makes it one of the most PR-friendly marathons in the country. The cool lake air, enthusiastic crowds, and well-organized logistics keep runners coming back every June.

Race-Day Weather
June in Duluth can go a few different ways, and that's the honest truth. A cool morning in the low 50s is common at the start, which feels great early, but the afternoon sun along Lake Superior can push temps into the low 70s by the time you're in the late miles. It's manageable, but it's not a guaranteed cool day. The lake can also kick up a headwind on the back half of the course, which catches people off guard. Hydrate from mile one and don't bank on the weather doing you any favors.
Entry
Grandma's moved to a lottery in 2022 after years of selling out within minutes. The drawing runs in October the prior year; lottery odds have been about 1 in 2. A small allotment of guaranteed-entry slots goes to time qualifiers, charity partners, and 'Streaker' multi-year finishers.

Most travelling runners fly into DLH, about 10 miles from the start, right on the doorstep by rideshare or transit, roughly a 16-minute trip. Stay close to the start in Duluth, MN so you're not fighting race-morning closures and transit on tired legs. Arrive a day early to clear the expo and bib pickup, and build in buffer for gear-check and corral entry.
