Detroit Free Press Marathon
The Detroit Free Press Marathon takes you across an international border mid-race, running through a tunnel beneath the Detroit River into Windsor, Canada and back. It is a cool October loop with honest hills and a finish in the heart of Detroit.

Race-Day Weather
Mid-October in Detroit runs cool and crisp. You're typically looking at a low-40s start, which means layers in the corral that you'll want to shed by mile 5 or 6. The afternoon high sits in the upper 50s, so the back half of the race is usually comfortable rather than warm. It's a good window for moving fast. That said, Great Lakes weather can shift, so check the forecast in the final days and don't assume the mild median is guaranteed.
Entry
Open registration through EnMotive until September 8, 2026 for international races (Marathon, International Half-Marathon, Marathon Relay). Charity fundraising available through Run for a Reason program.

Most travelling runners fly into DTW, about 18 miles from the start, an easy transfer by rideshare or transit, roughly a 28-minute trip. Stay close to the start in Detroit, MI so you're not fighting race-morning closures and transit on tired legs. Arrive a day early to clear the expo and bib pickup, and build in buffer for gear-check and corral entry.
